Camco Investigates the Possibilities of Low Carbon Home Refurbishment

Camco is undertaking an investigation into the potential carbon savings through undertaking a whole house carbon refurbishment; a project commissioned by the new Department of Energy and Climate Change.
The aim is to deliver 80% carbon reductions in existing homes through the installation of a whole package of carbon reduction measures. The work involved entails:
  • Identifying the whole package of carbon reduction measures that are required
  • Gauging the cost per house of installing all these measures
  • Understanding the key barriers to a whole house approach
  • Analysing the main policy instruments for delivery
Our research will be directly fed into the UK Government’s emerging ‘Heat and Energy Saving Strategy’ which is currently out for consultation, and will be published later this year. This piece of work builds upon a long history of Camco activity in whole house refurbishment, which includes the Generation Homes initiative and the Existing Homes Alliance that we helped establish in 2008 to spearhead action for greater carbon reductions in housing. Fundamentally, it recognises the key issue of getting to grips with UK homes which are responsible for almost a third of UK carbon emissions.
