Delivering value from biofuel and biomass

With increasing focus on renewable sources of electricity generation, the biomass and biofuel sector is growing rapidly. The Camco Group has been advising on and developing biomass projects for almost 20 years. The first projects were small scale, African, sustainable development initiatives, but we now advise on much larger scale projects around the world.

The range of biofuel technologies, manufacturing processes and applications makes this a particularly topical and complex sector. Camco has been central to the validation of the world’s first bio-diesel project - Astra Bio-diesel.
The use of biomass waste as a fuel to be used in place of coal or fuel oil has been facilitated by the introduction of the CDM and JI programme. Camco developed the first registered JI project in Central Europe using biomass waste in a Bulgarian pulp mill, replacing coal and eliminating methane emissions from waste.

Camco has pioneered the development of several biomass fuel switch projects at pulp and paper mills in Russia. The utilisation of waste wood in specially converted boilers has helped raise awareness of the opportunities available through carbon financing. There can be significant upfront capital expenditure requirements and in addition, the boiler conversion technology is relatively new and untested.
