a coal mine methane case study
Located in the coal mining area of Shanxi, China, the project captures and utilizes coal mine methane previously vented into the atmosphere, which is drained from a number of operating coal mines.
The methane is used in imported gas engines to generate up to 90MW of power and also serves as the combustion fuel for the industrial furnaces of a newly established alumina production plant. The alumina project is the first of its kind in China.
Camco contributed to the UN Approved Methodology and assisted the client in developing and qualifying the world’s largest CMM project under the CDM.
The project was recently voted Carbon Finance Transaction of the Year by the well respected Environmental Finance magazine.
